Privacy Policy
Last updated July 2026
This policy explains how we handle your personal information. Because tax work involves some of the most sensitive information you hold, we take our privacy obligations seriously and handle everything you share with us in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Who we are
This policy is issued by Chandru's Business Services Pty Ltd (ABN 28 656 597 787), trading as Chandru's Business Services. We are a registered tax agent practice providing tax, accounting and related advisory services to individuals and businesses. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Chandru's Business Services Pty Ltd.
What we collect
To prepare and lodge your returns and provide our services, we collect information including:
- identity details, such as your name, date of birth and identification documents;
- contact details, such as your address, phone number and email;
- financial and tax records, such as income statements, deduction receipts, bank details for refunds, investment and rental records, and business accounts; and
- tax file numbers (TFNs) and related government identifiers.
We collect this information directly from you wherever possible, and — with your authority — from the ATO through its pre-fill and agent services.
How we use your information
We use your personal information to prepare and lodge your tax returns and other statements, to deal with the ATO on your behalf, to provide the accounting and advisory services you have engaged us for, and to keep you informed about your engagement — for example, reminders about lodgement deadlines and updates that affect your tax affairs. We do not use your information for unrelated purposes without your consent.
Tax file number protection
TFN information is handled under the Privacy (Tax File Number) Rule 2015. We collect your TFN only where taxation law requires or permits it, store it securely, restrict access to team members who need it to do their work, and never disclose it except as authorised by taxation law — for example, when lodging your return with the ATO. TFN information is securely destroyed or de-identified when it is no longer required.
Disclosure
We disclose your information to the ATO and other government agencies when lodging returns and statements on your behalf, and to the secure cloud and practice-software providers we use to run the practice — in each case only as required or authorised by law, or with your consent. We require our service providers to protect your information to the standards the law requires of us. We never sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their marketing.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. These include encrypted storage and transmission, access controls and multi-factor authentication on our systems, secure channels for exchanging documents, and staff obligations of confidentiality. Records are retained for the periods taxation law requires and then securely destroyed.
Access and correction
You may ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. We respond to requests within a reasonable time and will explain our reasons in the rare cases where the law allows us to refuse access.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below — we aim to resolve complaints promptly and will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
