FAQs
Common questions
The things people most often ask before they get in touch.
Why use a registered tax agent instead of lodging through myTax?
A registered tax agent knows what you can legally claim — and what will attract ATO attention. The fee is itself tax-deductible, and many clients find deductions they didn't know about — though results depend on your circumstances. You also get extended lodgement deadlines: agent clients can often lodge as late as 15 May the following year, instead of the 31 October deadline for self-lodgers.
How do I check you're actually registered?
Every registered tax agent has a registration number issued by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB). You can look up our registration on the TPB public register at tpb.gov.au — our Tax Agent Number appears in the footer of every page on this site.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Your photo ID (first visit), bank details for your refund, and records of income and deductions: PAYG income statements are usually pre-filled from the ATO by late July, so mainly bring private health insurance details, receipts for work-related expenses, rental property statements, and dividend or managed fund statements if they apply to you.
Can you do everything remotely?
Yes. Most of our clients never visit the office — we work by phone or video call, you upload documents through a secure link, and you sign your return electronically. Refunds go straight to your nominated bank account.
How long does a refund take?
The ATO processes most electronically lodged returns within about two weeks. We lodge electronically the same day you approve your return, and we track it until your assessment issues.
I haven't lodged for several years. Will I be in trouble?
Don't panic — this is more common than you'd think, and coming forward voluntarily always beats waiting for the ATO to come to you. We can pull your pre-fill data from the ATO for past years, prepare all outstanding returns, and where penalties have been applied we can often request remission on your behalf.
What are your fees?
We work on fixed fees confirmed before any work starts — see our Pricing page for the full schedule of what each engagement costs. Whatever the fee, it is tax-deductible next year.
When is the deadline to lodge my tax return?
If you lodge yourself, the deadline is 31 October. If you're registered with us as a tax agent client before 31 October, you'll generally have until 15 May the following year — one of the simplest reasons to get in touch before the end of October.
